Recovery Advocate / Behavioral Health Technician

Position Summary:

The Recovery Advocate / Behavioral Health Technician will act as liaison for the clients to the clinical staff, relating needs and requests and assists the professional staff by helping to supervise clients during the recovery program.

Full or Part-time shifts available at Primary (all male facility):

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the admissions process, orientation, answers client questions, and assists client in adjusting to the recovery program routine.
  • Works as a liaison between the client and clinical staff to report any changes in the client's physical, behavioral, and/or mental condition.
  • Assists the professional staff by helping to supervise clients during the recovery program with emphasis on client safety, well-being, respect and dignity.
  • Functions as a member of the treatment team and accepts responsibilities for duties, such as but not limited to client observations (and rounds), risk observations, and assisting with behavior modification programs such as during client crisis.
  • Accompanies and transports clients to medical clinics, recreational activities, field trips, other outings, and AA meetings in the community to ensure safety, provide therapeutic assistance, and help prevent elopement. Institutes appropriate security measures escorting clients inside and outside the facility.
  • Participates and assists clinical treatment team members with groups in therapeutic activities.
  • Maintains awareness of and documents whereabouts of clients at all times, reporting problems appropriately.
  • Recognizes and intervenes in disturbed/aggressive behavior as soon as signs of disruptive behaviors are recognized per company policies and procedures.
  • Participates as an active member in the treatment team meetings, advising others of observations and recommendations.
  • Possesses the ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and other programs, displaying intermediate PC skills.
  • Manages with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promotes the culture, values, and mission of STC.

*DIFFERENCES TO ABOVE FOR OVERNIGHT TECH*:

  • Training will look much different for an overnight tech, and most of the responsibilities listed above will not come into play on a night shift. For example, the clinical staff isn't there at night, so the overnight tech would likely not be expected to assist in any clinical matters, except in rare cases. Also, the tech is expected to know how to process a new admit, in case of a late-night admission, but this is also rare. An overnight shift will mainly consist of doing hourly rounds, keeping up with the shift report, and assisting the overnight nurse if needed.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • General Knowledge of 12-Step Recovery Program
  • Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes due to business and staffing needs including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended times if necessary
  • Ability to pass acceptable drug screen and background check
  • General knowledge of addictions and mental health complications
  • General knowledge of alcohol and addictive drugs and their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact on the individual and the family
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or acquired within 30 days of employment
  • Class "D" (Chauffeur's) License accompanied with acceptable driving record
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Municipal Laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction including Confidentiality (HIPAA), Patient Rights, Company Code of Ethics, and Discrimination
  • Position handles young male adult and adult male population
  • Excellent, proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • High degree of attention to detail, integrity, empathy, personal initiative, and commitment to quality

Education Level: High School Diploma or GED

Work Conditions:

  • Working in a temperature controlled environment; 80%-90% of the time spent indoors
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components
  • Ability to work independently
  • Normal workplace hazards
