Accounts Payable Specialist (Baton Rouge, LA)

The role of the Accounts Payable Specialist is to perform various accounting tasks related to the efficient maintenance and processing of accounts payable transactions. Our ideal candidate will be able to work within strict deadlines and is a self-starter who practices accountability and works efficiently. The incumbent of this role will review and verify invoices, code expense forms, enter invoices into the system, process and reconcile journal entries, monitor all accounts to ensure payments are up to date, research any discrepancies found, and other duties as required.

A Day in the Life of an Accounts Payable Specialist INCLUDES:

• Reviewing and verifying invoices and checking requests for accuracy prior to issuing payment.
• Entering invoices into the accounts payable system and preparing accounts payable checks after receiving proper authorization.
• Coding and posting employee expense forms to the appropriate general ledger.
• Coding and posting Corporate VISAs to the appropriate general ledger monthly.
• Monitoring all accounts to ensure payments are issued timely and are up to date.
• Researching and resolving invoice discrepancies and issues.
• Coordinating and integrating accounting functions to provide quality support for all other functional units within the credit union.
• Working as a team to coordinate all financial areas of the credit union to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Maintaining a working knowledge of various accounting software programs.
• Answering questions from employees regarding expense forms and invoices.

Accounts Payable Specialist Skills and qualifications include:

• A high school education or GED.
• 1 year of experience including prior experience in accounts payable and data entry.
• Strong computer skills and strong attention to detail are a must.
