Building And Shipping Coordinator - Hourly

This position is the support for the Shipping Office in the Department of Biological Sciences and responsible for package control & distribution, building procedures, state vehicles, monitoring liquid nitrogen & acts as the alternate building coordinator when needed. At the time of employment, you will need to become an authorized driver. This position reports to the Building Operations Manager.

Duties Include:

  • 50% Package Control
  • Independently responsible for all incoming packages, making sure they are properly checked in, stored, and distributed to faculty and staff in the Life Sciences Building, the Life Sciences Annex, and Choppin Hall. Must be diligent and careful in handling the wide variety of packages that are delivered to the department daily. Must maintain a log of all incoming packages, copy packing slips to give to accounting office, and notify responsible party that package has arrived. Packages must be properly stored until picked up by the responsible party/purchaser. In the case of unidentified packages, employee must follow up by contacting the vendor in order to confirm the identity of the purchaser.
  • Responsible for instructing faculty, staff, and students on accurately completing forms for shipments by means of Federal Express, UPS, DHL.
  • 25% Vehicle Property Management
  • Responsible for five departmental vehicles which includes overseeing the maintenance and repair of vehicles. Employee is responsible for managing and approving the online reservations of vehicles for faculty, staff and students. Trains authorized drivers on the use of the MV-3/MV-4 form which is submitted monthly for each vehicle. Make sure drivers log mileage and maintain the vehicles are in good condition.
  • 10% Alternate Building Coordinator
  • This person acts as the alternate building coordinator as needed to manage building work order systems and communicate any issues to the building occupants. Ensure facility-related issues are addressed.
  • 5% Supervision
  • Supervises undergraduate student workers. Responsible for training and coordinating workload, approving their work schedules. Some of their duties include mail and package distribution, word processing/typing, answering phones and running errands.
  • 5% Liquid Nitrogen
  • Supervises liquid nitrogen being taken by faculty and staff needed for research. Responsible for making sure the requests from the reservation site is accurate. Distribute the liquid nitrogen key when requestor needs liquid nitrogen. Must inform supervisor when a new tank needs to be ordered.
  • 5% Other Duties
  • Additional duties may be deemed necessary by the supervisor, assistant to the chair and departmental chair to fit the changing needs of a growing department.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. LSU values skills, experience, and expertise.
