Role Description

We are seeking a dedicated Yard Spotter to join our team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in operating semi-trucks with trailers or yard tractors to move trailers within the yard and to loading docks. This role requires close coordination with warehouse personnel, adherence to safety guidelines, effective communication, and compliance with transportation regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Maneuver trailers within the yard, transport them to loading docks, and ensure proper placement for loading and unloading
• Work closely with warehouse personnel to schedule trailer movements, secure trailer doors, and maintain an organized yard
• Follow safety guidelines, conduct vehicle inspections, and wear required personal protective equipment
• Maintain clear communication with the team, report yard issues, and provide shift change briefings
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and report any damages or issues
• Perform pre-trip inspections, report mechanical issues, and keep maintenance records
• Identify and suggest ways to improve yard operations
• Be prepared to respond to emergencies according to protocols
• Participate in training programs, safety meetings, and complete mandatory classes
• Follow environmental guidelines and properly store hazardous materials
• Maintain cleanliness in the operations area and vehicles
• Adhere to company policies such as the Standard of Conduct, Drug & Alcohol, Equal Opportunity (EO), and Sexual Harassment policies, and comply with the no-smoking policy

Qualifications

• Uphold a 100% commitment to an accident and injury-free workplace
• Hold a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Minimum of 1 year "verifiable" Yard Spotter/ Jockey experience or 3 years of professional experience in Class A driving or related roles
• Ability to report for duty on short notice when needed to cover a shift
• Able to work a 12-hour day and/or night shift, including weekends and holidays as needed
• Yard Tractors: Previous experience operating yard (spotter) tractors in a demanding environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
• Effective communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
• Clean MVR and background, valid Medical Card
• Must be registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse
